Armed Security Officer Renewal (Online) – Part 1

Available to commissioned officers in the Houston metro, Fort Bend County, and statewide

Continuing education is required under Texas rules to maintain a Security Officer Commission. This course supplies the online classroom segment of that renewal for officers who already hold Level III status.

Access is immediate and self-paced. There are no scheduled class times. The material assumes prior commissioning and concentrates on regulatory updates and recurring operational mistakes rather than introductory topics.

Subject areas addressed:

• Trespass provisions and related criminal-procedure points that apply on post
• Standards for field notes and reports that remain usable later
• Boundaries of a security officer’s role at a crime scene
• Force-option decision-making linked to the level of resistance encountered

Successful completion produces the certificate used for the classroom portion of renewal paperwork.

Separate requirements that remain: An in-person firearms requalification (and any associated defensive-tactics element) must still be completed within the statutory window with a qualified instructor. That session is arranged and paid independently. State renewal fees are paid directly to DPS and are not part of this enrollment.

Begin the process before the commission expiration date. A lapse can trigger additional requirements beyond a standard renewal.

Training Audience: Currently commissioned security officers working in Greater Houston (including Fort Bend) or elsewhere in Texas who need the continuing-education classroom component finished ahead of expiration. Not offered for initial licensing. Does not replace the mandatory range requalification.

Cost and access: $45 covers the online classroom portion only. Single payment. Access begins upon purchase.
