Here is a breakdown of the online courses currently available:
Level II Non-Commissioned Security Officer ($40): This is the mandatory starting point for unarmed security work in Texas. No prior law enforcement or security experience is required.
- Format: Fully online and self-paced.
- Curriculum: Covers unarmed authority boundaries, observation, incident response, standards of conduct, and force rules prior to intermediate weapons.
- Outcome: Passing the exam grants the PSP-36 certificate, which you submit with your non-commissioned license application to the Texas DPS Regulatory Services Division.
Level III Security Class – Part 1 Classroom ($105): Texas requires Level III training before a Security Officer Commission can be issued for armed work. Note: You must complete Level II before applying this certificate. Your range day with defensive tactics and firearms remains a separate event; contact me if you need assistance scheduling it.
- Format: Online classroom only.
- Curriculum: Builds on Level II by covering warrantless arrest authority, criminal trespass and notice, field notes, crime scene limits, and force options tied to subject resistance.
- Outcome: Passing the written exam (75% required) yields the PSP-30 certificate for the classroom half of your commission application.
Online OC (Pepper Spray) Certification – Part 1 ($40): Texas Penal Code §46.05 treats duty-size chemical dispensers as prohibited weapons unless the officer has currently approved training. Note: This is open only to officers who have already finished Level III; Level II alone does not qualify. Practical session is booked separately.
- Format: Online classroom only.
- Curriculum: Covers OC composition, physiological effects, deployment limits (distance, targeting, burst duration), decontamination, and liability.
- Outcome: Satisfies the classroom training defense to prosecution.
Armed Security Officer Renewal ($45): Available only to existing commissioned officers needing to complete continuing education to maintain their Level III status.
- Format: Online classroom only.
- Curriculum: Focuses on regulatory updates, trespass provisions, report writing, and force-option decision-making.
- Outcome: Provides the certificate for the classroom portion of your renewal paperwork. A lapse in your expiration date can trigger additional requirements.
Career Starter Bundles: For applicants starting from zero, bundling the coursework reduces friction and overall cost. Access for bundles remains open for six months from purchase.

Important Disclaimers: What Is Not Included: None of these online enrollments include the required in-person range days, OC practical sessions, Level IV personal protection training, or state licensing/commission fees paid directly to DPS.
